The review about this product
Anyone who appreciates the alternatives offered by natural medicine should read this book. It is the inspiring story of an extraordinary man, Dr. Ralph Weiss, who was one of the pioneers of natural medicine in the United States, as well as one of its most intelligent, dogged, and effective defenders. Dr. Weiss, now in his 90s, was active in his practice in Medford Oregon well into his 80s. He inspired generations of naturopathic physicians through his teaching, through his lectures at conferences, through his tenacious refusal to allow the FDA, the State Legislature and the medical establishment to deny his extraordinary care to his patients. Stephen Bailey became a close friend of this national treasure and has done us all a service by recording the rich life and legacy of Ralph Weiss.
Dr. Bailey, a naturopath, was himself involved in the fight to protect the ability of naturopaths in Oregon and in the United States to diagnose, treat, prescribe and care for patients with the drugless regimen that is the foundation of naturopathy. Filled with fascinating anecdotes that reveal the caring and passionate devotion to his patients that was the hallmark of Dr. Weiss is practice, Dr. Bailey's eloquent book is a must-read for any therapist in the natural healing professions, as well as for anyone wanting to be inspired by the life of a man who found his calling in service to others and never wavered from that path.
Interwoven with the personal story of Dr. Weiss, is the history of antagonism and outright thuggery of the medical establishment against anyone not compliant or complicit with their agenda of making prescription drugs the cornerstone of healthcare in America. As such it is a cautionary tale for all of us who value our freedom to choose what we feel is best for our well-being. At the time of this writing there are bills in Congress that would limit our choice of supplements, indeed our access to non-toxic, natural alternatives to potentially crippling drugs with their myriad side effects. As George Santayana said, `Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
This book is inspiring, intelligent, richly informative and beautifully written. I recommend it highly.
