The review about this product

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (What's this?) I had been praying for a month or two asking God to help me be the person He created, not the person my childhood experiences created. And I had been praying for help to get back in touch with me, the real inner me. Who knows, maybe it's midlife crisis time kicking in? But anyways, then this book popped into my life. I just love when God does that.

The author describes some difficult situations in her life that she has been struggling with (weight, childhood issues, etc.) and it really clicks so much with things I've been going through and dealing with myself. So reading this book felt like I was talking with a close friend. If you connect with the topics the author deals with, it might be helpful to journal along with this book. I think it would also be great for a book club too because there is so much that would be beneficial to talk about with other women who are going through similar struggles.

Once in a while I came across something that I wasn't totally connecting with. One example is the chapter on friendships with other women. I like the comment she mentions from some other person about how friendships often only last a few years and that is about how long they are suppose to last. It makes you feel better knowing you are not the only one who sometimes loses someone who was once a close friend and then wonder why the two of you no longer click and have gone your separate ways. But I do feel that not all friendships are meant to pass by you in a few years. To purposely build a lasting friendship is something I hope women do not give up on. It's hard to find someone willing to put in as much effort and keep their friendship a priority in their life, but I will not give up on that notion. We see some women who have found this, and I think it's worth pursuing.

But all in all, most of this book really was in sync with things I have been thinking and feeling lately. Like many "self help" and inspirational books, at the beginning you feel like the author is going to take you from start to finish, and by the end you will have found the secret or the technique to fix your problem. And as usual, that is not exactly how it works. That is why journaling with this book would be helpful. There is no magic answer, but the book is very inspiring and gets you thinking. That is what is helping me. First off, just knowing so many other women are going through this, and then secondly, having some specific things to ponder and pray about is something I am finding very helpful.

The author is not a psychologist. But she's a woman, a kindred spirit to many of us. This is not like sitting in therapy with a professional, if that is what you are lookig for. This is sitting with a friend, a fellow woman who strives to be the person God created and live the life He intended. It's woman to woman chat. And if you don't have a close friend to talk to about these things, this book is the next best thing. I appreciate the author putting herself out there for us, making herself available for friendship with us while we work through these struggles.
