Its a review about this product
I first learned of this ebook during the leadership workshop at the 2013 "Shrewd" Arts & Entertainment Conference (Shrewd2013.com). I confess I was a little baffled when Dr. Tommy Shavers introduced us to this title before his class on being "shrewd as snakes but innocent as doves." The connection between worship and arts, entertainment or the topic of shrewdness eluded me. After his brilliant class I downloaded it to the Kindle as soon as I had the chance. As I began reading I realized that Dr. Shavers had chosen the ideal time to deliver this teaching. He had wisely anticipated the potential dark side to our focus on Christians using their talents in the Arts & Entertainment industries and how Satan desires to leverage it. Dr. Shavers demonstrates that he is not unaware of Satan's schemes (2 Corinthians 2.11).
In "None of the Above," Dr. Shavers articulates how we can redirect appropriate worship of God to the powerful and talented among us or to things like money.
Wrong worship is one of Satan's shrewdest tactics because it leverages mankind's pride. The same proposal Satan offered Jesus, he is offering humanity: the opportunity to become objects of worship. This is such a potential pitfall for those in the Arts & Entertainment field -- "those most likely to fall" from wrong worship.
He is especially courageous in calling out greed, materialism and the love of money in spite of the attempt by Western Christianity to minimize or ignore these objects of misdirected worship. He doesn't assume the role of "holier-than-thou" judge, however, but defines how he had been seduced by these evils, as well. "Would you rather God took care of you without giving you money, or would you rather He gave you the money and you took care of yourself?" is a profoundly simple question he asks that I have found to be very helpful in identifying these sins in my own life and the lives of those I minister to. How we answer reveals a great deal about what or who we have put our trust in.
I have seen over the course of almost 30 years as a Christian how the praise of men, admiration, and approval can act as a drug that addicts those who receive it. But Dr. Shavers shows that it isn't just those of status and power who are at risk and that those who exalt them are enablers and complicit in the sin. So this is a book for leaders and followers and one I can't recommend more highly to Christ's church.
